05/08/08 Large Suffolk Estate makes the switch to WoodfuelIt was almost two years ago when the Heveningham Hall Estate in Suffolk first considered installing a woodchip boiler to provide the heating and hot water needs of the Hall. The final scheme encompasses some 26 properties, providing heating and hot water requirements to all the existing properties on the Estate. In the past the Hall itself was heated via two large electric boilers which became uneconomic to run in the mid 90’s. At this stage a log boiler was installed and although energy costs were greatly reduced, the operation was very labour intensive. The progression to an automated woodchip system was a natural one. Stuart Adolph, the Estates project manager explains “The owners of Heveningham Hall Estate were keen to further exploit the forestry activities on the Estate and the installation of a biomass boiler fuelled by woodchip from the Estate had been a long term goal”. Energy Innovations have installed a 900kW Gilles HPKI-K woodchip boiler, as well as an extensive district heating system. The system was commissioned in May and the final range of properties to be heated in this phase are now being brought online. For further information on this project |
